My God
(multi channel video installation, loop, 2012)

My God depicts the quest for God of a number of young believers in Amsterdam. The installation unravels the theme visually and narratively, leaving the internal and external elements in their complexity. My God shows the contradiction between the assumption that there is increasingly less need for religion in a modern society and what we see around us in the public space.

My God

My God depicts the quest for God of a number of young believers in Amsterdam. The installation unravels the theme visually and narratively, leaving the internal and external elements in their complexity. Six big screens display the lifestyle of a group of individuals, all practising different ways of a bodily personal conversation with God. On eight smaller displays the individuals are heard in intimate monologues, weaving reconstructions of stories and translating experience into language. My God shows the contradiction between the assumption that there is increasingly less need for religion in a modern society and what we see around us in the public space.

This project was upon invitation by Imagine IC to create a work on the theme of faith, and part of a long‐term collaboration of Imagine IC with VISOR (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Institute for the Study of Religion) and ASSR (University of Amsterdam, Socio‐scientific Research School).
